Mexico to host 2024 tourism market despite Hurricane Otis aftermath

Mexico City, Nov 3 (EFE).- The Mexican government has decided to keep Acapulco as the venue for the next Tourist Marketplace, the most important event in the tertiary sector in Latin America, while its population and infrastructure recover 10 days after the impact of Hurricane Otis.

"Tourist Marketplace 2024 will stay in Acapulco. Thanks to the work of the three levels of government and the commitment of the tourism sector," said Miguel Torruco, Mexico's tourism secretary, on the social network X on Friday.

After the passage of Otis as a category 5 hurricane on 25 October, which left 47 people dead and 56 missing, the authorities decided to re-evaluate the venue for the next edition of this event.

This is mainly due to the damage that affected 65% of the coast of the state of Guerrero, impacting almost 3 million Mexicans, and at least 80 hotels and tourism-related businesses, as well as damage to more than 90% of homes and public services (Camera: DAVID GUZMÁN).
