Mexican tradition of burning Judas Iscariot resumes in Puebla after pandemic hiatus

Puebla, Apr 8 (EFE).- After a three-year absence due to the pandemic, hundreds of parishioners in Puebla, Mexico, resumed the traditional burning of Judas Iscariot on Holy Saturday.

The event took place in the Barrio del Artista, located in the central Mexican state of Puebla, and included the burning of effigies representing politicians, artists, former presidents, and other notable figures.

The artists of Barrio del Artista hung eight life-sized figures made of a cane or stick frame, tissue paper, and pyrotechnics to represent the biblical passage where Judas hangs himself from a tree after betraying Jesus. (Camera: GABRIELA GARCÍA GUZMÁN).
