Mexican president promises pardon for Mexican woman convicted of defending herself against rapist

Mexico City, May 19 (EFE).- The Mexican Roxana Ruiz, sentenced to six years in prison for defending herself against her rapist, could set a dangerous precedent for women in Mexico, a country in which "not being raped is synonymous with going to jail".

STATEMENTS BY ROXANA RUIZ, SENTENCED TO 6 YEARS IN PRISON: We do not share this opinion, we do not think it is coherent or fair that the judge sentenced me to six years just because she thinks it was an excess of self-defense. I do not know what the limits are for you to defend yourself, if your life is at risk, if a guy after raping you threatens you with death because you defend yourself, it is more the fury of this guy because you do not submit to him and the judge's sentence against me is totally unfair.
