Mayon Volcano's activity intensifies, may force evacuation of up to 4,000 people

Albay, Jun 14 (EFE/EPA).- The Philippine authorities are preparing Wednesday for the possible evacuation of up to 40,000 people living near the Mayon volcano, which increased its activity in the last few hours, local authorities reported.

The evacuation has been voluntary for residents living within a radius of six kilometers from the volcano up until now, but can be extended to eight kilometers if the Mayon threatens a major eruption and the alert is raised from 3 to 4, which would mean the forced evacuation of up to 40,000 people.
