Lula da Silva, president of Brazil:

"The Amazon is in a hurry... in a hurry to survive the devastation promoted by the few who do not want to think about the future." "The Amazon is in a hurry to stay alive and face the droughts that climate changes are already beginning to bring and that may intensify in the coming years" "That is why nothing better to celebrate the Amazon Day than to show that the Government is also in a hurry. Hurry to reduce the destruction of the Amazon and to announce concrete measures to guarantee its preservation".

Sonia Guajajara, Minister of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil:

"We will continue to act, because we, the indigenous peoples, are the guardians of the Amazon, because we are the Amazon itself. We need to continue with actions that value people, communities and cultures. This is the way to be involved with the Amazon."
