Lenin Moreno: "Correismo will never govern Ecuador as long as it does not abandon authoritarianism"

Asunción, February 23 (EFE).- The former president of Ecuador Lenín Moreno (2017-2021) considered that Correismo, a movement led by his predecessor Rafael Correa (2007-2017), "will never govern again" his country as long as it continues defending a project that postulates indefinite reelection.

I have said publicly that Correismo will never again govern the country as a movement as long as it does not abandon, in the first place, its thoughts, such as that indefinite reelection should be a condition. It is not so, on the contrary, we see it in other countries, the terrible consequences that for example Venezuela has had. We prevent Ecuador from becoming a Venezuela, a Nicaragua, we prevent it with our decisions. As long as they do not abandon this criterion of indefinite reelections, as long as they do not abandon the criterion of thinking that only a supreme leader, a perpetual dictator, should be the one to manage the party and the country, as long as they do not leave aside authoritarianism, believing that they should occupy absolutely all the spaces of government, those spaces that belong to the Executive, legislative and control bodies that they should have under their control, as happened during the time of economist Rafael Correa. As long as they do not abandon this criterion, as long as they do not rationalize their postulates.

I predicted that before the elections that brought Guillermo Lasso to power in the Government and I also said it before the engineer won the elections.

I was going to make the decision at the right time, to consult mainly with the people who take care of me, with the doctors I have to consult, that is, I cannot put a vanity of having myself there, I cannot put my life at risk, I am going to be 71 years old. Then it would be house imprisonment, which would harm me because I am here doing a job, a job that is extremely positive for people who have some kind of disability.
