Kilifi (Kenya), Mar 26 (EFE/EPA) - (Camera: Stringer) Kenyan authorities on Tuesday began handing over the bodies of exhumed victims of a cult massacre who allegedly persuaded them to fast to death to meet Jesus Christ.On 14 April, a court denied bail to Paul Mackenzie, who was arrested on 14 April 2023 and is believed to be the leader of the cult.Mackenzie and 94 other co-accused went on hunger strike on 20 February to demand their release on bail.They face charges of terrorism, the murder of 191 children and the manslaughter of at least 238 people.Mackenzie is allegedly responsible for the so-called "Shakahola massacre", a reference to the name of the forest in the coastal county of Kilifi where authorities found most of the 429 bodies of his followers, many of them children, in mass graves and mass graves.FOOTAGE OF THE BEGINNING OF THE HANDOVER OF BODIES OF THE VICTIMS OF THE SHAKAHOLA MASSACRE IN KILIFI, KENYA.
