COLOMBIA ELECTIONS

Juan Daniel Oviedo: Petro's ‘total peace’ policy was a “very misguided process”

Bogotá, Apr. 20 (EFE).- Economist Juan Daniel Oviedo, running mate of right-wing presidential candidate Paloma Valencia, asserts that, if they win the election, they will put an end to Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s “total peace” policy and will not negotiate with illegal armed groups but will instead seek to subdue them.

“That process was very misguided,” Oviedo said of “total peace” in an interview with EFE, in which he clarified that although Senator Valencia—of former President Álvaro Uribe’s Democratic Center party—and he were opponents during the 2016 referendum on the peace agreement, they now seek to join forces to bring peace to the country.
