Maïwenn (director, co-writer, and actress), in French:

8- "Before going to see Johnny I proposed the role to French actors that I loved, but it couldn't be. And then I wanted to be honest with my desire and I told myself that desire is much more important than a French actor imperatively. I wanted to vibrate for the actor, especially because I was going to act myself and I was going to kiss him so I preferred a sexy actor."

9- "[Johnny Depp] is a scholar, very interested in France. He knows equally well French cinema, painting, and music. So at a certain point, I said to myself, 'oops, he's going to have to study.' But he knew much more about Louis XV than I did.
