Jewish pilgrimage to Tunisian synagogue

Djerba (Tunisia), May 19 (EFE).- (Camera: Natalia Román Morte / Laura Fernández Palomo) Asking for a child in the family or the marriage of those who resist the sacrament are the most requested wishes among the thousands of Jews, an estimated 5,000 this year, lining up at La Ghriba synagogue, a genuine North African pilgrimage that ends Thursday on the Tunisian island of Djerba.

FOOTAGE OF THE CELEBRATION INSIDE THE SYNAGOGUE AND SOUNDBITES OF THE PILGRIMS KATI RACHEL AND ESTHER; AND FROM THE GREAT RABBI OF TUNISIA, RAV HAIM BITTAN.

Translations:

Rav Haim Bittan, Chief Rabbi of Tunisia:

« This is the oldest in Djerba, it is more than 2,000 years old and knows many miracles and everyone believes. When someone has a desire, they come here to pray because they believe that with their prayer it will be fulfilled »

Esther, pilgrim:

"I have a friend who is sick, she has cancer, and I have asked for a blessing. With her name and her mother's name, because in the Jewish religion we are Jews through the mother. I have asked for a blessing. I have my little niece , who is 33 years old, who is not married and does not even want to hear about it and I have asked for a man for her as I wish"

Kati Rachel, pilgrim:

"La Ghriba has a lot of strength, there have been many miracles, I have been a witness and even an instigating missionary. It gives me goosebumps when I remember»
