Japanese researchers develop robot with human-like skin

Tokyo, Jun 27 (EFE).- Japanese researchers have developed a facial robot with "living" skin made from human cells, which provides biological functionalities and expressiveness.

The breakthrough could help study wrinkle formation and reduce the use of animals in cosmetic and pharmaceutical testing.

Led by Professor Shoji Takeuchi of the University of Tokyo's Institute of Industrial Science, the team used cells and extracellular matrix to create a dermis-like lining.

They also developed a unique anchoring structure that mimics human ligaments and allows the robot to smile. (Camera: HANDOUT).
