G7 SUMMIT

The Italian Prime Minister officially confirms the G7 agreement to grant the loan to Ukraine

Bari (Italy), June 13 (EFE).- The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, confirmed this Thursday, on the opening day of the G7 summit, that world leaders have reached an agreement to grant Ukraine a loan of 50 billion dollars financed with the interests generated by the frozen Russian assets.

STATEMENTS BY THE ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER, GIORGIA MELONI IN BARI, ITALY:

"I confirm that we have reached the political agreement to provide additional financial support to Ukraine, a loan in the amount of about $50 billion before the end of the year thanks to a mechanism whereby its restitution will be able to use the proceeds of Russian assets tied up in our jurisdictions. We are not talking about confiscation of these assets, but about interests that mature over time. It must be understood that today was a fundamental political step, which will now have to be defined from a technical point of view, taking into account the European Union's reference framework. It was a result that could not be taken for granted and one of which I am particularly proud."
