Israeli judge extends detention of two Sumud Flotilla activists

Ashkelon, Israel, May 5 (EFE).- An Israeli judge on Tuesday extended the police detention of the two activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla arrested by Israel—Brazilian Thiago Ávila and Spanish-Palestinian Saif Abukeshek—by six more days to allow Israeli intelligence services time to investigate them for terrorism-related offenses.

The two activists, the only ones transferred to Israel out of the 175 intercepted by the Israeli military in international waters, have been on a hunger strike since their arrest on April 30 and appeared for the second time on Tuesday in a court in the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon, where they remain in a detention center.
