Indonesian students protest against presence of Rohingya refugees in Aceh

Aceh (Indonesia), Dec 22 (EFE/EPA) - (Camera: Hotli Simanjuntak) Students protest against the growing influx of Rohingya refugees in Aceh province, in front of the Government Office building in Banda Aceh.

According to UNHCR data, nearly 1,500 Rohinya refugees have arrived in Aceh since early November 2023 in several waves of crossings to Indonesia and Malaysia.

Several boats have recently arrived in Aceh, mostly carrying Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh, where the Muslim minority fled in 2017 after being displaced by the military crackdown in Burma.
