Indonesia to welcome first Pope visit in more than three decades

Jakarta, Apr 1 (EFE/EPA).- Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, on 3 September, in what will be the first papal visit to the Asian archipelago since John Paul II's trip in 1989.

The announcement was made by the Indonesian government, highlighting the visit as part of a wider trip to Asia that will also include stops in predominantly Catholic East Timor and Papua New Guinea.

The visit comes more than two years after the Indonesian government extended an invitation to the Vatican, reflecting a significant moment of inter-religious engagement and dialogue. (Camera: MAST IRHAM).
