Indigenous communities demand disarmament for peace in Mexico

Altamirano, Aug 18 (EFE).- Hundreds of indigenous Tzeltal and Tojolabal people from the municipality of Altamirano marched on Friday to demand the dismantling and disarmament of the self-defence groups in the Chiapas jungle, in southeastern Mexico, in order to guarantee peace.

The contingent was made up of inhabitants of 109 communities, 11 neighbourhoods, transport workers, shopkeepers, and relatives of Óscar Hernández Sánchez, who was murdered by armed men inside his home on August 8. (Camera: MITZI FUENTES).
