PANAMA PROTEST

Hundreds march in province hardest hit by anti-mining protests in Panama

David, Nov 14 (EFE).- "No to mining, Yes to agriculture," read one of the banners of a large march that on Tuesday toured the capital of Chiriquí, the province that has been hit the hardest by the blockade of the Panama's main highway in rejection of a mining contract, a protest that is plunging the country into a crisis.

Chiriquí, on the border with Costa Rica, is the main producer of vegetables and legumes in Panama, but the blockade of the Pan-American highway for more than three weeks has prevented the arrival of fuel or the departure of crops. (Camera: MARCELINO ROSARIO).
