UN High Commissioner: Mexico must move forward in solving disappearances crisis

Geneva (Switzerland) Dec 6 (EFE/EPA) - (Camera: Antonio Broto) The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, on Wednesday acknowledged the social progress that has been made in recent years in Mexico, but also emphasised that progress must be made in resolving the "crisis of forced disappearances" in which the country is immersed.

In comments made during a press conference to take stock of the global human rights situation, Türk applauded what has been achieved in terms of reducing poverty and improving social welfare in Mexico.

"I have some statistics, for example that more than 5 million people were lifted out of poverty between 2018 and 2022," he said.
