GUATEMALA CORRUPTION

Guatemalan anti-corruption commissioner says he received the State in "critical conditions"

Guatemala City, April 16 (EFE).- The anti-corruption commissioner of the Government of Guatemala, Santiago Palomo, assures that the first months in office have been "a roller coaster" after having found a State "in critical conditions", since according to calculations by experts in official media, between 2,000 and 3,000 million dollars were embezzled during the presidency of Alejandro Giammattei (2020-2024).

1. "These first few months have felt like a roller coaster. It has been intense, but also trying to navigate, in what you describe very well, which is to have assumed the Government in critical conditions. And I describe them in this way because it is the pattern we have been identifying in each of the talks I have had with the different ministers".

2. "One Minister describes it in an illustrative way, every drawer you open, there is a dead rat and it is mentioned in this way because I really believe that it reflects the situation in which the Executive Branch of the Government of Guatemala was founded".
