US MIGRATION CRISIS

Greg Casar: "If we want to reduce migration we must change our policy on Latin America"

Washington, June 5 (EFE).- The most progressive wing of the American Democratic Party has risen up against the new immigration decree signed by the president Joe Biden, and promises to fight from Congress until it reverses or opts for another one that protects immigrants and does not limit the right of asylum.

TRANSLATION:

1. "We're getting rid of a lot of the right to asylum that has existed in this country for over 60 years and it's not going to help, it's not going to help with the situation at the border because it's not going to reduce migration; if we want to reduce migration, then we have to change our policy, particularly on Latin America."

2. "A lot of people are coming from Venezuela, we must change our policy of sanctions that is causing more poverty in the Venezuelan people."

3. "We are seeing more and more people coming from Cuba, we must change and remove the embargo we have against the Cuban people, so we can reduce migration and create a better system for the people who do want to migrate here, not just for the people who are forced to migrate from here."

4. "This measure by the President doesn't close the border completely, but it does take away the rights of many people to seek asylum, but what it's going to do is it's not going to cause less migration, it's just going to cause more chaos, there's going to be more people looking for a place to stay in Mexico. We have seen that that can also cause enormous stress."

5. "We have also seen that there was a horrible fire that killed people seeking asylum to Mexico, this is not going to cause less migration, it is just going to cause more problems."
