73% of Great Barrier Reef in mass coral bleaching event

Sydney, Australia, Apr 17 (EFE).- Coral bleaching is affecting 73 percent of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the fifth such widespread event since 2016, due to the climate crisis, according to authorities.

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBMPA) released its Reef Snapshot 2023-24 this week with the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), in which it pointed out that "compared to previous summers, cumulative impacts have been much higher this summer and a widespread bleaching event is still unfolding.” (Camera: HANDOUT).
