GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ

General Director Gabo Foundation talks about the book "The Doctors of Macondo"

Bogotá, April 11 (EFE).- One of the characteristics of Gabriel García Márquez's literary universe is the masterful way in which he narrated situations related to the health or death of his characters, a method now revealed in 'The Doctors of Macondo', a book that will be published in July.

"The Doctors of Macondo" is an incredible treatise. It is the product of many years of research. It was originally a doctoral thesis by Juan Valentín Fernández De La Gala, a Spanish doctor and expert in forensic anthropology who went into an investigation like Melquíades might have done with some manuscripts to look for all the connections in the literary work of Gabriel García Márquez, with medical topics of all kinds, characters, remedies, etcetera. And with what he found what he did was a lot of threads, a lot of clues. And he subjected all of that to an exhaustive analysis. It is an intersection in which there are: Gabo's journalistic techniques, the existence of a large number of specialized medical sources, and of course his literary creation. And in general, we realize that the medical and biological universe present in García Márquez's literary work is enormous.
