French police demonstrate for more specialized laws

Paris (France), May 2 (EFE) - (Camera: José Manzaneque) Several French police unions demonstrated Monday to demand a more specialized jurisdiction after a colleague was charged "for voluntary manslaughter" after fatally shooting the driver of a vehicle on April 24.

SOUNDBITES IN FRENCH FROM UNSA POLICE UNION SPOKESMAN JÉRÔME JIMENEZ.

TRANSLATION JIMENEZ:

1. "The penal qualification is very serious, because it says that the policeman is a murderer, and we cannot accept that. He could be sentenced to 30 years in prison (...)".

2. "(...) Without corroborating what happened, without corroborating the police operation, without corroborating what happened the night of that intervention. We cannot accept it".

3. "We would like there to be a specialized jurisdiction. A magistrate specialized in police matters at the level of the prosecutor's office and in the courts."
