French artist Saype presents in Paris his first solo exhibition

Paris, Apr 25 (EFE) - French artist Saype, a pioneer in ephemeral monumental works, presented his first solo exhibition in Paris on Thursday.

The exhibition, entitled 'Timeshot', brings together videos, photographs and sketches of his creations made outdoors, the last ones in El Ejido (Spain).

"I am very proud and happy because it is the culmination of years of work. It is my first solo exhibition in Paris after years and years of work. And I think it's always a challenge for 'land artists', which is how I define myself, to create gigantic works in the middle of nature, but above all to turn them into works that can then be sold in galleries. So I'm very proud because it's the culmination of years of work for me.

"It's very curious, because before being an artist I was a nurse and in this profession you have a lot to do with death and you question your imprint as a human being. And I had read a lot of literature about Buddhism, which one of its pillars is impermanence, realising as a human being that everything we experience will evolve and disappear. And in Buddhism, we often ask ourselves `When will that be?' Because human beings want to freeze the things that we experience. And in the end, there is a kind of initiatory aspect to my work, where I tell myself that I am going to do something and I know by its very nature that it is going to disappear."

"My purpose was not to take a shot at farmers, because I think that we, as consumers, are responsible. I didn't want to make a social denunciation of this place, but for me what is interesting is to ask ourselves questions, that's why I do something that, in my opinion, tries to be poetic. The child (in reference to the drawing) looks at what is happening, he doesn't say if it is good or not, he asks himself questions".
