FRANCE PROTEST

Fourth day of strike by Eiffel Tower workers in Paris

Paris (France), Feb 22 (EFE/EPA).- (Camera: Teresa Suárez) Workers from the CGT union held a press conference on Thursday to mark the fourth day of strike action by staff at the Eiffel Tower, a monument of which they denounced the serious deterioration due to rust.

Among their demands, they complained of an insufficient budget for the management and maintenance of the Eiffel Tower, as well as an exaggerated estimate of expected revenue, since it is based on an assumption of 7.4 million visits per year, which has never been achieved.

The concessionaire, which employs nearly 360 people, is facing this strike at a time when it is renegotiating the financial parameters with the city council, from which it has received 60 million euros to reinforce its capital, and a 20% increase in ticket prices is planned.
