Foreign tourist arrivals to Japan rise, nearly 80% of pre-pandemic figures

Tokyo, Sep 20 (EFE/EPA).- Japan's tourism sector is showing strong signs of recovery, with the latest data indicating a resurgence in visitor arrivals.

According to the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO), the number of foreign tourists in July 2023 has reached almost 80% of the figures seen in the month prior to the 2019 coronavirus outbreak.

This remarkable rebound in tourism is partly attributed to the current depreciation of the yen, which makes Japan more affordable for foreign visitors.

Tourists were seen flocking to popular destinations such as the Sensoji temple in Tokyo's Asakusa district, a testament to the country's regained appeal among international travellers. (Camera: FRANCK ROBICHON).
