Managua, Dec 7 (EFE).- On Thursday, Nicaraguans celebrated the "Gritería", an endearing religious feast in honour of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, amidst political tensions in the government of Daniel Ortega. The festivity, led by the Cardinal and Archbishop of Managua, Leopoldo Brenes, began in the atrium of the Metropolitan Cathedral. The ceremony began with the traditional question, "Who causes so much joy?" and the crowd answered, "The Conception of Mary." This exchange was followed by explosions of rockets, peals of bells, and hymns to the Virgin Mary, which filled the streets of Managua with a festive atmosphere. In addition, devout Catholics built homemade altars with replicas of the Virgin Mary and distributed sweets and gifts to those who sang songs about the Immaculate Conception of Mary. (Camera: EFE).
