FRANCE ELECTIONS

Far-right wins in Brittany for the first time in history

Guingamp (France), Jun 26 (EFE) - Brittany is famous for being the land from which Asterix and Obelix resisted the Roman invader, but this northwestern French region of socialist tradition is topical for something more real than imaginary: four days before the first round of the legislative elections, the far right is for the first time a majority in an area that has always been hostile to it.

TRANSLATIONS:

1.- Philippe Le Gouff, Mayor of Guingamp:

"The moral part we have seen it jump to pieces in several segments of the electorate, when we see, here as outside, women, who normally do not vote for the National Rally, that a part did vote for him, as well as young people. Let's say that a bolt has been blown out of the blue".

2.- Noël Lude, septuagenarian candidate for deputy of National Rally (RN) in the fourth Breton constituency of Côtes-d'Armor:

"What I have noticed this year is that, especially when I campaign in the markets, I have not once heard the word 'fascist', even from those militants (extreme left). They hate us, they show it, but they don't use the same words they uttered just two years ago."
