FRANCE ART

An exhibition in Paris shows the city at the beginning of the 20th century

Paris (France), Nov 13 (EFE).- At the beginning of the 20th century, artists were clear about which place in the world to go: Paris. It was the era of Pablo Picasso and Amedeo Modigliani, of the dancer Josephine Baker and the jeweler Louis Cartier, among many others. This creative effervescence stars in a titanic exhibition at the Parisian Petit Palais.

STATEMENTS BY ANNICK LEMOINE, DIRECTOR OF THE PETIT PALAIS AND GENERAL CURATOR OF THIS EXHIBITION "PARIS OF MODERNITY: 1905-1925".

Translation 1: "The ambition is to show that Paris is both the heart of innovation - at the time it was called the 'ville-monde' (world-city) - and home to extraordinary cultural splendor. Because artists come to Paris from all over the world and from all professions and social conditions".

Translation 2: "(Marc) Chagall says that in Paris he found light and that no other place had that light. It was not the light of the atmosphere, it was the light of art and innovations. (Ernest) Hemingway talks about the city from the party".
