UK STRIKE

English resident doctors on strike for better pay

Leeds (United Kingdom), Apr 11 (EFE/EPA) - (Camera: Adam Vaughan) Resident doctors in England began a four-day strike on Tuesday, demanding better pay, which threatens to disrupt patient care in the National Health Service (NHS).

An estimated 350,000 medical appointments, including operations, will be cancelled as a result of the strike by members of the British Medical Association (BMA).

Today's strike is centred on a pay dispute between the BMA and the government, with the union claiming that resident doctors in England have seen a 26% pay cut in real terms since 2008 because pay rises have been below inflation - currently at 10.1%.
