Employees of Spanish institutions in Portugal protest against their wage freeze

Lisbon, May 30 (EFE), (Camera: Brian Bujalance).- About thirty workers of the Embassy and other Spanish public institutions in Portugal have concentrated today in Lisbon to demand decent working conditions and wages in line with the standard of living in Portugal after thirteen years of wage freeze.

"The fundamental claim is that we have been since 2009 without the application of the law according to which the salaries of labor staff abroad should be updated," Juan Agüero, who has been working since 2017 in the Ministry of Education, explained to Agencia Efe and TVE.

During these years, they say in a statement, the staff has seen its purchasing power in Portugal reduced by 23.5% due to the increase in energy, food, services associated with personal care, housing or accommodation.
