Droughts exacerbated by El Niño deepen poverty gaps in Peru

Huancayo, Peru, Dec 20 (EFE).- Although the typical image of El Niño in Peru is floods and houses washed away by heavy rains, in the southern Andean region the damage is almost invisible. The droughts caused by this phenomenon act like a slow disease that weakens livestock and ruins the crops of already vulnerable farming families.
