Door-to-door polio vaccination campaign in Pakistan

Peshawar, Jun 3 (EFE/EPA).- A week-long door-to-door anti-polio vaccination campaign began on Monday, to vaccinate millions of children in the nine districts of the north-western Pakistani province of Peshawar.

A 2.5-year-old child from Shikarpur district, Sindh, has been paralyzed by wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1), marking the fourth case in Pakistan this year, the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad notified.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two nations where poliovirus is still endemic. (Camera: ARSHAD ARBAB).
