More than 40 doctors detained in Venezuela in the last 10 days

Caracas, Jun 21 (EFE), (Camera: Jackdwin Sáez )- The president of the Venezuelan Medical Federation (FMV), Douglas León Natera, denounced on Tuesday that more than 40 doctors were detained during the last 10 days in several Venezuelan states, mainly in Zulia, Monagas, Sucre, Aragua, Lara and Apure.

Natera did not detail the reasons alleged by the authorities to detain the doctors nor what crimes they have been charged with.

Last April, President Nicolás Maduro declared a fight against what he called "hospital mafias" and, as a first measure, ordered the incorporation of secret inspectors in the health centers to hunt down the workers who, he says, steal supplies and medicines.
