MEXICO US MIGRATION CRISIS

US diplomatic visit brings discussions on binational relations, migration challenges in Mexico

Tijuana, Jan 11 (EFE).- The US Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, made a visit to the border city of Tijuana on Thursday to engage in discussions about environmental and immigration issues with the officials of Baja California state.

He emphasised the importance of strengthening penalties against migrants who enter the US illegally as a strategy to control the situation.

Salazar was welcomed by Baja California's Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, near the Punta Bandera Wastewater Plant. Here, they initiated projects focused on preventing the direct discharge of pollutants into the ocean.

Accompanied by other US officials, the ambassador also seized the opportunity to talk with local authorities about various facets of the US-Mexico binational relationship, including migration and the ongoing issue of illegal border crossings in the region. (Camera: ISRAEL AARÓN MARTÍNEZ PÁEZ).
