INDIA POLLUTION

A dense layer of toxic smog suffocates New Delhi

New Delhi (India), Nov 18 (EFE/EPA).- A blanket of toxic smog, a mixture of smoke and fog, covered New Delhi this Monday on the most polluted day of the season in the Indian capital, where the strictest measures of the national protocol for such situations are in effect from today, which includes the suspension of in-person classes and restrictions on traffic and industrial activities.

In the center of New Delhi, the air quality index (AQI) was at 494 in the afternoon, close to its maximum possible level and in the highest category of the standard measurement, "severe plus."

1) Lakhan Parmar, 29 years old

"Today I feel that pollution is higher compared to recent days. I come from Burari, which is far away; I came by motorcycle. I feel like my eyes are burning and I have a sore throat and discomfort. The pollution is high and things could be much better. I don't know much about what the Government is doing, but something should be done to improve the situation for ordinary people like us."

2) Ritik Jhanwar, 23 years old

"For the past three days, it has been very smoky here. And today I had a burning sensation in my eyes and pain in my throat. I have some trouble eating, so I wear a mask."
