Demonstration in Tokyo against decision to dump treated Fukushima water into sea

Tokyo, Jul 20 (EFE/EPA).- Protesters took to the streets in Tokyo on Thursday to oppose the decision to dump treated water from Tokyo Electric Power Company's (TEPCO) Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea.

The rally took place in front of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and demonstrated the growing public dissatisfaction with the controversial move.

Both the Japanese government and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have approved the dump, which will begin this summer.

However, protesters claim that the treated water, although deemed safe by the authorities, is still contaminated with radioactivity. (Camera: KIMIMASA MAYAMA).
