Democratic Republic of Congo launches vaccination campaign against MPOX outbreak

Goma, Oct 5 (EFE/EPA).- The Democratic Republic of Congo, the focus of the current mpox outbreak, launched its vaccination campaign against the disease on Saturday in the province of North Kivu, northeast of the country.

The Congolese Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention officially launched the campaign at an event in Goma, the capital of North Kivu, a region affected by the virus and the conflict fueled by more than 100 rebel groups.

Mpox, which spread from neighbouring South Kivu, is already present in 23 of the Congo's 26 provinces.

According to Dr Romain Muboyayi, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Public Health, ”30,596 suspected cases and 5,602 confirmed cases have been reported in the country since the beginning of the year.” (Camera: MOISE KASEREKA).
