Cyclone Khanun causes disruptions, closures as it makes landfall in South Korea

Jeju, Aug 10 (EFE) - Tropical Cyclone Khanun made landfall Thursday on South Korea's southeast coast, bringing heavy rains and winds that have led to the cancellation of flights and trains and the closure of roads, shipping lanes and schools in the country.

Khanun, the sixth typhoon of the season in the Pacific, which was downgraded to a severe tropical storm during its passage over southwestern Japan in recent days, where it left two dead and caused major transport disruptions, made landfall near the city of Geoje at about 9:20 a.m. Thursday.

The storm is moving north at about 20 km/h and is expected to continue moving vertically across the Korean peninsula to reach about 50 kilometres southwest of Daegu around noon and approach Cheongju and Seoul during the night, weather officials forecast. (Camera: HANDOUT).
