Cuban community in Maimi flocks to Patron Saint's shrine to celebrate 50th anniversary

Miami, Sep 08 (EFE/EPA).- Thousands of people flocked to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Charity in Miami, Florida, on Friday to honour the revered statue of the patron saint, celebrating a pivotal moment in the community's legacy.

The 50th anniversary of the shrine has deep significance for the Cuban exile community; the statue was the centre of attention during a mass at the Miami stadium when it first arrived, a solemn occasion witnessed by 30,000 Cuban exiles.

Over the years, the National Shrine of Our Lady of Charity has become not only a symbol of faith, but also a cornerstone of South Florida's cultural and historical significance. (Camera: CRISTOBAL HERRERA-ULASHKEVICH).
