Brussels (Belgium), May 17 (EFE) - Nine countries of the European Union (EU) on Friday avoided signing a declaration in favour of the ‘continuous advancement’ of the rights of LGTBIQ people through the application of community policies, coinciding with the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.Italy, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Croatia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have withdrawn their support for the declaration, according to a source from the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, which is the driving force behind the text, presented today in Brussels at an event with the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, ministers and secretaries of state of the EU-27.CAMERA: PABLO GARRIGÓS.FOOTAGE OF THE OUTSIDE THE EU WITH THE FLAGS OF THE UNION AND THE LGTBIQ COLLECTIVE AND THE SIGNING OF THE DECLARATION FOR THE CONTINUOUS ADVANCEMENT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF LGBTIq PEOPLE IN EUROPE.
