Correa warns that judges committed prevarication and Jorge Glas remains in prison

Quito, April 23 (EFE).- The former president of Ecuador Rafael Correa (2007-2017) assured this Tuesday that the judges who declared the detention of former vice president Jorge Glas inside the Mexican Embassy in Quito illegal and arbitrary, committed prevarication by keeping him in prison and not releasing him.

"The law says: if the detention is arbitrary illegal, immediate freedom must be ordered. It does not say, but if it is that he has another sentence and maybe... no, immediate freedom must be ordered."

"The judges committed prevarication, they are acting in the face of explicit law and Jorge Glass continues to be imprisoned. Unfortunately we have no rule of law in the country, I mean, a few good things about the brutality that we have lived the last week is that the world has known what we have lived in 7 years, the most serious abuses: raids, false testimonies, forged evidence, fabricated cases, political persecution, disrespect to the laws."

"A man who declared himself emperor and dismissed even the Constitutional Court and put the worst to control everything from there. In other words, the world is hearing about him."
