DR Congo frees 648 inmates from Makala prison

Kinshasa (DR Congo), Sep 22 (EFE) - The Minister of Justice of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), Constant Mutamba, announced the release of 648 inmates from Makala prison, the largest in the country, including eight minors, as part of the government's efforts to decongest Congolese prisons.

“You must be role models because we are giving you the opportunity to regain your freedom. Among you, there are people who can be useful to society. Do not make the same mistakes that brought you here,” Mutamba said at a ceremony held Saturday at Makala prison itself, south of the capital, Kinshasa.
