Colombia's U'wa indigenous people hope Petro will recognize their lands

Sarayaku (Ecuador), (Camera: Juan Francisco Chavez), Jul 31 (EFE) - The U'wa indigenous people living in Colombia, hopes that with the arrival of leftist Gustavo Petro to the presidency, the recognition by the State of the lands claimed by this community, a case pending a ruling in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR), will be expedited.

This was stated to Efe by the vice-president of the U'wa nation, Sewuasu Cobaria, during his participation in the first Meeting of Knowledge of the Original Peoples, held in the community of Sarayaku, of the Kichwa ethnic group, located in the Amazon of Ecuador.

"We have good relations with this government that has arrived, and there are some agreements and commitments with all the indigenous peoples of Colombia. We hope that hopefully Dr. Petro will give us that facility and grant what we, the indigenous peoples of Colombia, want", explained Cobaria.
