China's gruelling university entrance exam concludes with record participants

Beijing, Jun 10 (EFE/EPA).- China's annual National College Entrance Examination, the examination, commonly known as Gaokao, concluded on Monday with a record 13.42 million students sitting the exam.

Students have faced months of intense studies as part of increasingly stressful preparations for the exam, which can be particularly challenging for those hoping to study at the more prestigious Chinese universities.

For rural and poorer families, the success of their offspring in the "gaokao" can pave a way out of poverty. (Camera: WU HAO).
