Bio Bio, Mar 28 (EFE).- Workers at the Huachipato steel company in Chile on Wednesday confronted Economy Minister Nicolás Grau, demanding a reversal of the announced plant closure, citing competition from cheaper Chinese steel imports as a critical issue. The announcement of the company's indefinite closure came after anti-dumping measures against Chinese steel were deemed insufficient, highlighting a decade-long struggle. The closure has provoked widespread mobilisations in the Bío Bío region, with unions in all sectors threatening strikes in solidarity. Despite new tariffs on Chinese steel imports, workers and the company argue that these measures are not enough to counter price disparities and save the local industry. (Camera: JAVIER TAPIA).
