CHILD LABOR VENEZUELA

Child labor in Venezuela, "invisibilized" due to lack of data

Caracas, Jun 12 (EFE), ( Camera: Jackdwin SaƩz) - The economic crisis, the closing of schools due to the pandemic and violence are some of the factors that have pushed many children in Venezuela to work, a problem "invisibilized", according to experts, due to the lack of official figures that allow to know its real scope.

The director of the NGO Centros Comunitarios de Aprendizajes (Cecodap), Carlos Trapani, said "Obtaining figures indicates that the problem is invisible, and we do not know the magnitude of child labor. There are no official figures to know how many children are working. The problem in Venezuela is informal work, or the worst forms of child labor, where there is a large black figure, where it is not possible to characterize them, not even geographically or to know their age group or sex. In fact, many jobs border on forms of modern slavery".
