Quito, July 26 (EFE).- The ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Ecuador, the Belgian Charles-Michel Geurts, confirmed that the conditions do not yet exist for the European Commission to exempt Ecuador from visas for short-term trips to the Schengen area.

In spite of all that, of all the action of the Chancellery and the Schengen consulates, we see that the system is drowning and results in a too high rate of visa recess, which, at least in part, is an indicator of possible illegal immigration attempts. While we know that the Ecuadorian population is the second one that was passing with great risks the Darien, making its journey to the north of the continent. Europe is under a new wave of illegal immigration through the Mediterranean Sea with countries like Greece, Italy, Spain, which are in the first part. At the same time Europe is taking in 5 million Ukrainian refugees.
