Brazilian firefighters reduce flames in Pantanal, but fire is still far from control

Corumbá, Jun 30 (EFE). - Firefighters battling blazes in the Pantanal, a vast wetland shared by Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay, said Sunday the flames were receding but acknowledged they were far from control.

"We are getting closer to control, but we still do not have effective control; there are still many active outbreaks," Second Lieutenant Edraudino Pereira, head of hte team of firefighters, told EFE amid a field where flames reached the tops of some trees. (Camera: WALLACE CARVALHO).
