Brazil wins U-17 South American Championship

Quito, Apr 23 (EFE).- Brazil's under-17 team considered itself deserving of the South American Championship won on Sunday and thanked Venezuela for the help it gave them with a 1-1 draw against Ecuador, which allowed the Brazilian team to finish in first place in the final hexagonal.

This was stated at a press conference by Brazil U-17 coach Phelipe Leal, who praised the Vinotinto's attitude for facing Ecuador despite having nothing at stake after securing qualification to the U-17 World Cup.

Leal said it was "a very special day" for his team and considered the title a reward for the attitude with which they faced a tournament he described as "very complicated." (Camera: JUAN FRANCISCO CHÁVEZ).

-Today is a very special day, and to make this day even more eternal, finishing a tournament of such a high level as this one makes us feel even prouder about everything we have done. This is all due in large part to the way the players understood the process and the importance of the tournament.

-We had to face every game as if it were a final; in the draw, you fall into a group with many traditional teams, and we knew that any slip-up could end so many dreams and work.

-We knew we would come up against very well-organised teams with great players, players who in the near future will represent top teams, and the key here was to understand that we would not be perfect. Match by match, we understood that the most important thing was to study our opponents.

2.EDUARDO PEREIRA RODRIGUES, BRAZIL PLAYER.

-I think the main psychological characteristic I used here is trust in the group. Because it's not just one guy who wins, it's not just one who scores the goal. So trust the whole group and make them trust me. I'm sure we can have a very good championship and, as a result, win the title.

-Without a doubt, I think the four South American teams that have qualified for the World Cup are in a position to go very far. The Ecuadorian, Argentinian, and Venezuelan teams are very qualified, they are very technical, they have a very good collective play, and I'm sure we will go very far, and, God willing, a South American team will bring home the World Cup.
